For the theatrical release of Whalefall, Experiential Supply Co toured a PivotXP robot camera through Regal theaters in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. A UFactory xArm on a Glamatic rail, driven by PivotXP's iPad app, ran the same slow-motion move in every city, and a QR code put each video on the guest's phone about seven seconds later. The rig captured 311 videos, and 79% were opened on a guest's phone.

The Ask: The Same Cinematic Shot in Three Markets
Experiential Supply Co wanted a premium, cinematic photo moment for the film's opening in three markets, and wanted it to look and run the same in every city. That meant one rig that could be packed, shipped, rebuilt in a theater lobby and running again without re-programming the shot each time.
Sharing had to be instant and frictionless in a busy lobby, so guests could pull up their video before heading into the film.

What We Built: A Repeatable Robot Move and a QR Gallery
A UFactory xArm riding a Glamatic rail, driven by an iPad control app we built in-house for the robot. A guest takes their mark, the operator starts the move from the iPad, and the arm runs the same programmed slow-motion sweep every time.
Each clip uploads from the iPad to a sharing gallery we built for the tour. It processes in about seven seconds, and the booth shows a QR code that opens the guest's own video on their phone, ready to play and download. A text option was there for anyone who preferred it, but most guests simply scanned.

On Tour: Los Angeles, Chicago, New York
The tour opened in Los Angeles on September 29, moved to Chicago on October 5 and closed in New York on October 9, the biggest stop. The rig traveled and was rebuilt at each theater, and the same iPad app and moves ran in every city, so guests in New York got the same shot as guests in Los Angeles.
The client singled out the on-site crew by name in their wrap-up.

Questions about this build
Who ran the robot camera on the Whalefall theater tour?

The rig was packed, shipped and rebuilt in each theater lobby without re-programming the shot, so guests in New York got the same video as guests in Los Angeles.
How did moviegoers get their Whalefall robot camera video?
